This has been a year for stories!
Left Coast Crime, a favorite conference of Sisters In Crime’s Northern California chapter, took us north across the border this year to Vancouver. I met some amazing writers and discovered some amazing novels, and I brought home a suitcase full of story collections. This is the easiest way to satisfy one’s curiosity about the most possible authors in the least possible time.
In Vancouver we launched SinC NorCal’s first-ever anthology of regional crime stories, FAULT LINES, edited by Margaret Lucke. Back home in the San Francisco Bay Area, FAULT LINES inspired a series of parties, panel discussions, and related celebrations. It can be chilling to read the cold-blooded plotting of a charming person you’ve just spent half an hour chatting with over hors d’oeuvres!
If you’re curious, you can buy FAULT LINES at Borderlands, Book Passage, Books Inc, or most other neighborhood bookstores, or order it here (paperback or e-book) from Amazon. My story is a flash-fiction quickie called “Birdbrain,” featuring a heist and a parrot.
If you’re even more curious, you can get my e-story “Disarmed: an Edgar Rowdey Cape Cod Story” FREE from any e-book outlet (Kobo, Google, Apple, B&N) except Amazon, which sells it for 99 cents.
I was thrilled to learn this week that my story “Peccata Mundy” has been chosen for SEASCAPE: Best New England Crime Stories 2019, coming out in November. Topping off a busy year is a longer tale, “Scandal at the Savoy: The Case of the Missing Monocle,” which will appear in Sherlock Holmes Mystery Magazine#30, due out in December.
Happy reading!
